TO ADDRESS the accommodation challenges faced by National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to Lagos State, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced the approval of N5 billion for the construction of a new permanent orientation camp.

The proposed site, to be cited in Agbowa within the Ikorodu Division, aims to replace the current facility in Iyana Ipaja, which has been strained by inadequate space.

The announcement came during the End of Orientation Parade for the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 Corps members at the Iyana Ipaja camp. Governor Sanwo-Olu, addressing the gathering, emphasized the urgent need for a larger and more conducive orientation camp in Lagos.

He assured that the project would be completed before the end of his tenure, promising continuous funding to ensure its timely execution.

In addition to funding the construction, Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged automatic employment opportunities in the Lagos public service for the top 100 Corps members who demonstrate exceptional performance during their service year.

Enhanced Welfare Package

He also announced a welfare package of N100,000 for each Corps member completing their orientation in Batch ‘B’ Stream 1, highlighting his administration’s commitment to supporting youth development.

Addressing the Corps members directly, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged them to uphold the values of discipline and responsibility learned during their orientation.

He cautioned against the influence of misleading narratives on social media, urging them to leverage their training to discern and contribute positively to society.

Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the Lagos NYSC Coordinator, expressed gratitude on behalf of the Corps members for the governor’s support and outlined the rigorous training and skill acquisition activities undertaken during the orientation period.

She emphasized that the completion of the Agbowa camp would streamline operations and enhance logistical efficiency, enabling the NYSC to fully integrate corps members into various sectors of Lagos State’s economy.

The event concluded with the governor reviewing the parade and interacting with the Corps members, highlighting the significance of the NYSC scheme in fostering national unity and harnessing Nigeria’s diverse strengths.
