NDC Zones 2027 Presidential Ticket To Southern Region

ZONING OF the 2027 presidential ticket to the southern region has been confirmed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

JKNewsMedia.com reports that Buba Galadima, a political associate of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, disclosed the decision while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

He stated that the party will submit its membership register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on May 5 or 6 as part of its electoral preparations. “Once we do that, we are good to go,” he said.

Galadima addressed the party’s position on zoning and candidate selection, stating, “We have zoned the party’s presidential candidature to the south. No missing votes. We’ve zoned it to the south.”

He added that the party’s immediate focus is on conducting primaries rather than adopting a consensus candidate.

The development follows the formal entry of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party from the southeast, and Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano, into the NDC on Sunday.
Both politicians had earlier exited the African Democratic Congress amid an internal crisis within the party.
Obi had expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the African Democratic Congress and had called for zoning, stating that failure to address power rotation could undermine the coalition and create distrust among stakeholders.
After the party’s summit in Ibadan, Obi stopped attending meetings of the African Democratic Congress.
