GUNMEN OPENED fire on a National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) team during a late-night raid in Abuja, leaving three officers wounded and hospitalised with gunshot injuries.
The operation, which took place on Thursday night in the Jahi district of the Federal Capital Territory, targeted an uncompleted building in the NNPC area.
NDLEA operatives acting on surveillance intelligence had stormed the location and recovered a haul of illicit substances, including 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grams of tramadol 225mg, and nearly 5 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis.

Five android phones were also seized during the operation.
The attack occurred as the NDLEA team attempted to exit the site. Armed assailants opened fire, injuring three officers—one was hit in the rib, while the others sustained gunshot wounds to the back and leg.
The wounded personnel were initially stabilised at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before being transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, for further medical care.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), currently on official assignment in Kano, personally reached out to the injured officers by phone, offering his well wishes for their recovery.
He expressed gratitude to medical staff at both facilities, including the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital, for their immediate response and care.
General Marwa pledged that the NDLEA would collaborate with other security agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack, assuring the agency’s personnel that no effort would be spared in ensuring justice.
