A STATE-of-the-art Vision Centre has been opened at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) National Headquarters Annex in Abuja, marking a significant step towards improved welfare for personnel and enhanced public health collaboration.
The new facility is the result of a strategic partnership between the NDLEA, the Nigerian Optometric Association (NOA), and the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation.
Designed to deliver accessible, high-quality eye care, the centre will serve both NDLEA personnel and members of the public, offering comprehensive services including eye examinations and affordable prescription glasses.
During the commissioning ceremony, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised the initiative and lauded the NOA and its partners for their support.
Reflecting on his personal experience with eye care, Marwa encouraged officers and staff to prioritise regular vision checks, stressing the link between eye health, workplace productivity, and general wellbeing.

He expressed gratitude to the optometrists at the centre for pioneering the service and acknowledged their voluntary commitment.
“This Centre is a worthy addition to our several initiatives to promote and cater for the wellbeing of our workforce,” he said, describing the project as a critical boost to ongoing staff welfare schemes under his leadership.
NOA President Dr. Chimeziri Anderson hailed the development as a model of sustainable eye care integration within government institutions.
He traced the roots of the project to a high-level meeting in Lagos, crediting the NDLEA’s leadership for embracing the idea and committing to its implementation.
Anderson further revealed that international partners from France and Dubai were instrumental in providing cutting-edge equipment and technical support to ensure world-class service delivery.
Director of Medical Services, Dr. Audu Okpe, noted that the commissioning signified another milestone in the NDLEA’s growing investment in staff-centred health infrastructure.
He also highlighted the broader implications of the centre for strengthening institutional partnerships between security agencies and professional medical associations in Nigeria.
The organisations notes that the Vision Centre is expected to become a benchmark for collaborative healthcare delivery across government agencies, setting a precedent for other institutions to follow in supporting their workforce through accessible health services.
