OIL PRODUCTION climbed to an 11-month high in May 2026 in Nigeria, with output surpassing its Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) production quota.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the country recorded an average crude oil production of 1,530,354 barrels per day (bpd) and 170,446bpd of condensates, bringing total combined output to 1,700,800bpd.
The May performance represents 102 percent of Nigeria’s 1.5 million bpd production quota allocated by OPEC.
The production report released by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) disclosed that crude oil and condensate output ranged from a low of 1.51 million bpd to a peak of 1.86 million bpd during the review period.
It added that the May 2026 figures marked the highest level recorded since July 2025, when output reached 1,712,282 bpd.
In strict crude oil terms excluding condensates, production stood at 1.53 million bpd in May 2026, the highest level since January 2025 when output hit 1.538 million bpd.
The report noted that crude oil production rose by 2.77 percent in May 2026 compared with 1.48 million bpd in April.
Combined crude oil and condensate output showed steady growth over five months, rising from 1.48 million bpd in February to 1.54 million in March, 1.66 million in April, and 1.7 million in May.
JKNewsMedia.com also reports that among production streams, Bonny Terminal recorded 293,870 bpd, followed by Forcados Terminal with 289,900 bpd.
Qua Iboe posted 173,360 bpd, while Escravos Oil Terminal recorded 135,470 bpd. Odudu Amenam Blend contributed 63,250 bpd.
The NUPRC (attributed the increase to sustained operational stability, with no significant pipeline or facility outages recorded during the period.
It added that all scheduled turnaround maintenance activities were completed, improving operational reliability and production efficiency.
