AFTER MEETING both the Nigerian leader, President Bola Tinubu and Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, a Nigerian medical student, Bob Chikwem Amadi, has described the moment as profoundly inspiring.
On being introduced to the two leaders. Amadi, said President Tinubu’s state visit to Saint Lucia has left a lasting impression on him.
Preparing for the clinical phase of his medical studies at the American International University in Saint Lucia, Amadi found himself unexpectedly recognised during the President’s courtesy call to the Prime Minister’s official residence.
As part of the service team hired for the event, he was identified as a Nigerian student by the Prime Minister’s aides.
Prime Minister Pierre, acknowledging the shared heritage, formally introduced Amadi, a native of Rivers State, to President Tinubu.
The President briefly engaged him, asking after his background and studies, and offered encouragement for his academic journey in the Caribbean nation.
Amadi was later invited to join both leaders in a group photograph, marking what he described as a pivotal moment in his personal and professional life.
“This is an inspiring moment for me,” he said. “Saint Lucia is an amazing island. I will describe it as a wonderful place. They are a very contented society and things are relatively calm.”
A decade into his life in Saint Lucia, Amadi balances academics with part-time work as a talent and brand manager at a catering and entertainment company.
He had earlier completed a four-year basic medical programme and is now transitioning into clinical training.
Reflecting on the cultural and agricultural ties between the two nations, Amadi noted, “We have always hoped that there are many opportunities between Saint Lucia and Nigeria. We share similar food crops and culture, and the connection is deep.”
He further notes that his encounter with the two leaders reflect the broader impact of diplomatic engagements, not only between governments but also among the citizens they represent.
