NiMet Forecasts Sunshine and Thunderstorms Across Nigeria This Week

THE NIGERIAN Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a detailed weather outlook predicting a mix of sunny weather and isolated thunderstorms from Tuesday to Thursday this week.

On Tuesday, the agency anticipates predominantly sunny skies across the northern region, with few cloud patches. However, thunderstorms are expected later in the day over parts of Adamawa, Kaduna, and Taraba States.

In the North Central region, the forecast predicts sunny weather with patches of clouds, while isolated thunderstorms are likely over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi States.

As the day progresses, thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of Benue, Niger, Plateau, and Kwara States.

In the southern region, NiMet anticipates morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

As the day unfolds, thunderstorms will likely develop in Imo, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States.

On Wednesday, NiMet forecasts sunny skies across the northern states, although thunderstorms could develop in the afternoon over parts of Kebbi, Zamfara, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, and Kaduna States.

The North Central region will see sunny weather with clouds in the morning, and thunderstorms are expected later in the day over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Plateau States.

Southern Nigeria will experience cloudy skies with sunshine spells, with morning thunderstorms forecast for Ogun, Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Rivers, and Bayelsa states.

By afternoon, thunderstorms are likely over parts of Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Anambra, Enugu, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States.

For Thursday, sunny skies with a few cloud patches are expected in the northern region. Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are forecast for parts of Taraba.

The North Central region will experience similar conditions, with thunderstorms possible in parts of Benue, Kwara, and Kogi States.

The southern region is expected to be cloudy with occasional sunshine, with thunderstorms likely in the morning over Cross River, Rivers, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom States.

Afternoon thunderstorms will affect parts of Ekiti, Osun, Oyo, Ondo, Ogun, Ebonyi, Imo, Abia, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers States.

NiMet has advised the public to stay hydrated due to high temperatures across the country, which could lead to heat stress.

The agency recommends staying in cool, well-ventilated spaces and avoiding exposure to the sun during peak hours of noon to 3.00pm.

The public is also urged to stay informed through regular weather updates and take precautions against strong winds that may precede thunderstorms.

Airline operators are encouraged to consult NiMet for airport-specific weather reports to plan their operations effectively.

The agency advised anyone in need of further updates including residents to visit NiMet’s official website at www.nimet.gov.ng.
