NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms And Rains Across Nigeria From Monday To Wednesday

THE NIGERIAN Meteorological Agency has issued a weather outlook warning of thunderstorms and rainfall across the country between Monday and Wednesday.

According to the forecast released on Sunday in Abuja, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected on Monday morning over Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba states.

Later in the day, similar weather conditions are expected across the northern region, with flash floods likely in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.

The central region is expected to experience cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine on Monday morning, followed by moderate rainfall in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue.

It says that thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are predicted over most parts of the central region by afternoon and evening.

Cloudy conditions are forecast in the southern region on Monday morning, with moderate rainfall expected in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Rainfall is anticipated across most parts of the region later in the day.

For Tuesday, NiMet projected cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine across the northern region in the morning.

Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa, with thunderstorms forecast over Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba later in the day.

In the central states, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are expected on Tuesday morning, accompanied by moderate rainfall in Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, and the FCT.

Also, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are forecast later in the day over Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT.

The southern region is expected to record cloudy skies with chances of moderate rainfall in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta on Tuesday morning.

Later in the day, light to moderate rains are forecast across most of the region.

On Wednesday, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are forecast in the northern region, with slim chances of thunderstorms and light rainfall in Sokoto and Zamfara during the morning hours.

Isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are anticipated in Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto during the afternoon and evening.

For the central states, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are forecast on Wednesday morning, with light rainfall likely in the FCT, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger.

Another set of thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected later in the day in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger.

In the southern region, cloudy skies are expected on Wednesday morning, with moderate rainfall likely across several states later in the day.

The agency advised motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall to reduce the risk of accidents and urged farmers not to apply fertiliser or pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient loss.

NiMet further advised residents to fasten loose objects, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid tall trees during thunderstorms.

Airline operators were urged by NiMet to obtain airport-specific weather reports for planning, while residents were encouraged to stay updated by following NiMet’s website @ www.nimet.gov.ng.
