STRATEGIC COLLABORATION has been described as essential to unlocking value, driving sustainability, and deepening commercialisation within Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector, according to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.).
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by the Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mr Mumuni Dagazau, made this known during his address at the 2025 Inaugural Annual Downstream Petroleum Week, organised by the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) on Tuesday.
Ojulari described the downstream landscape as one defined by transition, opportunity, and strategic reform, noting that partnership remains the foundation for a sustainable energy future.
He stressed that collaboration across public and private sectors is essential to achieving energy stability and inclusive growth in the face of evolving global and regional market dynamics.
He highlighted that Africa’s energy demand is projected to grow significantly in the coming years, with Nigeria positioned at the forefront of that transformation.
This, he said, requires coordinated efforts and collective responsibility among stakeholders to harness emerging opportunities and ensure long-term sectoral resilience.
On domestic operations, Ojulari reaffirmed NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to consistent fuel availability, competitive pricing, and uncompromising quality assurance across its retail network nationwide.
“The opportunity to create a sustainable economy for today and the future is hinged on supply partnership, infrastructure co-investments, security partnerships, host community cooperation, and operational alliances,” he said.
“Everyone needs to get involved in the activities that will ultimately create a sustainably promising future for Nigeria.”
He further commended the National Assembly and the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) for initiating the strategic forum, describing it as a platform that aligns with NNPC Ltd.’s agenda of building an efficient, transparent, and competitive downstream market.
Ojulari assured that as a national energy company operating on commercial principles, NNPC Ltd. remains committed to deepening stakeholder engagement and strengthening collaborative models for sector-wide development.
He said the company would continue to invest in value-driven partnerships aimed at enhancing operational excellence and ensuring sustainable energy delivery across Nigeria.
The event, held at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, was themed “Celebrating Our Successes, Confronting Our Challenges, and Finding Solutions for the Petroleum Downstream Sector.”
It brought together legislators, downstream operators, and key industry stakeholders to deliberate on pathways for reform and innovation within the sector.
The House Committee stated that the annual forum would serve as a platform for continuous dialogue among industry players, with the aim of addressing operational bottlenecks, promoting accountability, and aligning the downstream sector with global best practices.
The NNPC statement, signed by Chief Corporate Communications Officer Andy Odeh, reaffirmed the company’s readiness to support all legislative and regulatory initiatives that drive downstream reform, efficiency, and investment confidence in Nigeria’s energy landscape.
