IMAGES CIRCULATING online falsely claiming to show Peter Obi in meetings with United States (US) President Donald Trump have been dismissed as fabricated.
In a statement posted on his X handle, Mr Obi stressed that the photos currently being shared on social media are fake and doctored, describing the accompanying stories as entirely false.
He clarified that he has not met Mr Trump recently, nor has he held any such meeting with Lagos transport leader M.C. Oluomo.
“These fabrications highlight the persistent dangers of fake news and disinformation in our society. They are not only misleading but deliberately designed to confuse, misguide, and distract the public,” Mr Obi stated.
He urged well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to remain vigilant, verify information before sharing, and resist the culture of propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.
He further noted that if such meetings had taken place, he would have personally made them public through his verified X handle.
According to him, his politics has never been about seeking praise or cheap publicity but about confronting the real challenges facing Nigeria and working towards solutions grounded in integrity, accountability, and transparency.
“My politics is strictly focused on addressing the plight of the suffering Nigerians, by tackling insecurity, rule of law, education, healthcare, and pulling millions out of poverty,” Mr Obi said.
In a separate statement, Mr Val Obienyem, spokesman to Mr Obi, also described as fake the picture circulating online purporting to show his principal with President Trump, accompanied by claims that the US leader praised him.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fake image circulating online, of Mr Peter Obi with US President Donald Trump, accompanied by a false claim that Mr Trump praised him. We wish to make it clear that the picture is fake, and the accompanying story is entirely untrue,” Mr Obienyem stated.
He added that Mr Obi has not met Mr Trump, nor has he received any such remarks from him recently, stressing that the picture and the claims were another example of the dangers of fake news and disinformation aimed at misleading the public.
Mr Obienyem reaffirmed that Mr Obi remains committed to responsible leadership anchored on integrity, accountability, and transparency, not on falsehoods.
