THE NATIONAL Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru-Jos, has been advised to formulate effective policies to tackle Nigeria’s current challenges.

Addressing participants of the Senior Executive Course 46 of NIPSS, led by Air Vice Marshal David Solomon, during their courtesy visit at Government House, Asaba, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasized the critical role of the institute in fostering strategic thinking and leadership development.

“The importance of your institute is anchored on fostering critical thinking that will encourage training and developing professionals in policy analysis, strategic planning, and leadership. Being a high-level center for informed research, reflection, and dialogue, the country looks up to you to provide a roadmap for true policy initiatives and execution,” Oborevwori stated.

Highlighting the institute’s pivotal role in shaping policy and governance, Oborevwori noted its contributions to deepening democracy in Nigeria and across Africa as he expressed confidence in NIPSS’s ability to manage policies and strategies that will shape the future of Nigeria and the continent.

Addressing the recent unrest in Okuama, Oborevwori assured that the situation had been managed, with the military having withdrawn and an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp established and emphasized the state’s commitment to peace and continuity, reassuring the NIPSS team of their safety and the availability of necessary information during their stay.

Air Vice Marshal David Solomon, representing the Director-General of the Institute, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, lauded Oborevwori for sustaining the socio-economic growth of Delta State while expressing gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality extended to the NIPSS team.

On standing against land grabbers, the Delta State government declared its commitment to prevent land grabbers from seizing properties belonging to Dennis Osadebay University, Anwai-Asaba. Chief Frank Omare, Chairman of the State Taskforce on Recovery of Government Lands, made this declaration in Asaba.

Speaking at the site of the ongoing demolition of illegal structures at ‘Musa Camp,’ Omare lamented the encroachment on university land, crucial for the accreditation of the Faculty of Agriculture.

“The government is not doing this to hurt anybody because an approval to build does not confer ownership of land on anyone,” he said.

Omare criticized the activities of some government officials allegedly aiding the land grabbers, vowing that the law would catch up with them and stressed that the demolition was a state directive aimed at recovering land for the university, not a witch-hunt.

“We are aware that top government functionaries are encouraging the land grabbers to continue to undermine the government. This is unacceptable because we don’t encourage people to mislead poor people,” Omare stated.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to enforcing the law and ensuring the proper use of land, reinforcing also the dedication to accommodating the needs of Deltans through lawful means.
