STATE-BACKED intervention projects worth N2 billion are set to transform the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta, following a major funding announcement by Governor Dapo Abiodun at the institution’s 15th combined convocation ceremony on Tuesday.
The funding will support the construction of a 500-seater ultramodern lecture auditorium, a new access road to the facility, a fully equipped building for the Department of Accountancy, and a modern library.
Governor Abiodun, speaking at the Ojere campus, also marked the occasion by donating a 28-seater bus and rewarding excellence with a N2.5 million cash prize for the best graduating students spanning the 2015 to 2024 academic years.
“We will be building a 500-seater ultramodern lecture theatre and constructing the road leading to the auditorium. Additionally, we will construct a new building for the Department of Accountancy and equip a modern library. The total investment for these interventions amounts to approximately N2 billion,” he stated.
He praised MAPOLY’s legacy of producing graduates who have significantly contributed to both Ogun State and Nigeria’s development, noting the institution’s revival following its earlier relocation to Ipokia.
The decision to return operations to the Ojere campus has restored vibrancy and academic excellence to the school, he said.
Calling the convocation a milestone event, Abiodun urged the graduating students to embrace innovation and resilience, describing education as a powerful tool to build change agents capable of shaping society positively.
He underscored the role of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in addressing unemployment, reaffirming his administration’s support for educational advancement across all sectors.
The governor acknowledged the contributions of parents and guardians, describing their sacrifices as instrumental to their children’s academic journeys.
Chairman of the MAPOLY Governing Council, Emeritus Prof. Kamarudeen Balogun, expressed gratitude to the state government for its support and commended the strides made in academic and institutional development under the current administration.
