FOLLOWING THE safe return of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, the sacrifices of civilians and security personnel who lost their lives during the incident have been remembered and honoured by the Oyo State Government.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the deceased were described as heroes whose courage and service would not be forgotten, as the government expressed condolences to their families and pledged continued support.
In a memorial message posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, the government extended condolences to the families of the deceased, saying their loss would not be forgotten while reaffirming its commitment to supporting those left behind.
According to the statement, the tribute followed the release of pupils and teachers who were abducted during the May 15 attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The government stated, “While we express gratitude for the safe return of the children and teachers abducted from Oriire LGA, we also wish to honour those who lost their lives.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We commit to supporting them during this trying period. May their souls rest in peace.”

Mr Joel Adesiyan
Mr Oluwasegun Akanni
Military and Security Personnel
Lieutenant F. A. Isaac
Mr Adigun Saibu
Mr Isa Saliu
Mr Rafiu Ayuba
An unnamed soldier
They lost their lives during the Ahoro-Esinle and Yawota abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area, the government noted.
Among those honoured was teacher Mr Michael Oyedokun, who was killed during the May 15 attack.
While the body of another slain teacher, Mr Esiyan Adegboye, was recovered and buried shortly after the incident, Oyedokun’s remains have yet to be found.
His family has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde and security agencies to recover his body to enable them to give him a due burial.
Also, the Oyo State Government said the memorial serves as a lasting tribute to the civilians and security personnel who paid the ultimate price during the crisis, pledging that their sacrifices would continue to be remembered.
