THE OGUN State Government has taken decisive steps to address housing and infrastructure challenges with the allocation of 15 housing units in Itanrin, Ijebu-Ode, to residents displaced by the recent demolition of the Igbegba Housing Estate.

This move is part of the state’s ongoing urban regeneration program aimed at revitalizing urban spaces and ensuring compliance with modern building standards.

Wale Ojo, General Manager of the Ogun State Housing Corporation, affirmed the necessity of demolishing outdated structures that had significantly depreciated in value over time.

He reassured affected residents of the government’s proactive approach, providing a four-month notice period and offering discounted mortgage options to facilitate their relocation.

Many residents have already taken advantage of the state’s affordable housing program, which not only provides access to new homes but also offers favorable loan terms to support their transition.

Acknowledging the economic challenges faced by residents, Ojo reiterated the government’s commitment to providing relief measures.

“We are aware of the economic situation and have prioritized support for affected residents through our affordable housing scheme and access to loans,” he stated.

Akeem Rasheed, one of the displaced residents, expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts and emphasized the importance of fulfilling promised relief measures.

“The government’s promise gives us hope for a smooth transition to our new homes,” Rasheed remarked, underscoring the positive impact these initiatives will have on the community.

In a parallel effort to improve infrastructure, the Ogun State Government has launched a comprehensive road rehabilitation project across all 20 local governments.

Engr Ade Akinsanya, Commissioner for Works, outlined plans to prioritize roads based on economic viability and funding availability. This initiative aims to enhance transportation networks and attract investment to the state.

Akinsanya further disclosed that stakeholders, including royal fathers, lawmakers, local government chairmen, and community leaders, collaborated to identify critical roads needing immediate attention.

The rehabilitation work has already commenced on several roads, with plans to extend to others in the near future.

Highlighting collaboration with the Federal Government, Akinsanya announced joint efforts on 14 road projects, including the Laderin-Train Station Phase 1 and Adesanolu road in Mowe.

These partnerships underscore the state government’s commitment to achieving sustainable development and improving the quality of life for residents across Ogun State.
