THE FLAGGED-off Inland Dry Port in Ogun State is set to significantly boost the state’s economy, reduce traffic congestion, and create thousands of job opportunities.

This development was officially sealed by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and Governor Dapo Abiodun.

The port is expected to become a major terminal for other seaport logistics hubs across Nigeria.

The foundation for the terminal, located in Kajola, Ewekoro Local Government Area, was laid on Friday.

Minister Oyetola revealed that the project will generate 5,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs, while also enhancing local businesses in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The terminal is expected to follow international standards, featuring digital systems for tracking, clearance, and cargo movement, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and global competitiveness.

Governor Abiodun highlighted that the completion of the project will establish Ogun as a leading logistics hub in Nigeria, reducing the burden on congested seaports like Apapa and Tin Can.

The port is also designed to bolster the state’s position as a commercial centre, not only within Nigeria but across West Africa.

Minister Oyetola emphasized the need for modern technology, urging the Nigerian Shippers’ Council to ensure the use of advanced Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for seamless operations.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to growing Ogun’s economy and driving infrastructural development.

Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, the Olu of Ilaro and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, while appealing for further improvements, particularly in road infrastructure.

This project, upon completion, is expected to reduce congestion at Nigeria’s major ports, drive economic growth, and transform Ogun State into a key logistics and economic powerhouse in West Africa.
