THE SECURITY landscape of Ogun State is set to receive a significant boost as Governor Dapo Abiodun has called for the establishment of a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) base to enhance the state’s security infrastructure.

This move aims to fortify Ogun as an industrial hub while ensuring safety for residents and businesses.

During a high-level meeting with a delegation led by Air Vice Marshal Enebong Effiom, representing the Chief of Air Staff, the governor reiterated his commitment to deepening collaboration with the Air Force.

This discussion followed an earlier engagement with Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, where Abiodun expressed readiness to reinforce security measures and advance aviation development in the state.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Ogun State, Abiodun underscored that an Air Force presence would further cement its position as a critical industrial gateway, ensuring a secure environment for economic activities to thrive.

He appraised the Chief of Air Staff for his proactive approach, describing him as a forward-thinking and responsive officer dedicated to national security.

Beyond security reinforcement, the governor advocated for the establishment of a Nigerian Air Force school in the state, emphasising its role in instilling moral values and discipline in future generations.

He affirmed his administration’s enthusiasm for the initiative, stressing that education remains a key priority for the state government.

“I also spoke to the Chief of Air Staff yesterday about going beyond a base and looking at how we can partner with you to have an Air Force school in Ogun State. This is something we are very passionate about,” Abiodun stated.

To facilitate the proposed Air Force base, the governor revealed that an unused model school has been earmarked to accommodate the force, minimising the infrastructural burden of setting up operations.

He expressed gratitude for the delegation’s visit, acknowledging their senior-level representation as a testament to the Air Force’s commitment to strengthening security in Ogun.

In further demonstration of his administration’s support for military presence, Abiodun noted that land and other necessary resources had been allocated to the Nigerian Navy to establish a naval base in Ogun Waterside.

He confirmed that the groundbreaking ceremony for the naval base is scheduled in the coming weeks.

Governor Abiodun also detailed ongoing infrastructural projects designed to attract investment and enhance transportation within the state.

He pointed out that newly constructed roads now provide direct access to railway networks, while the state’s airport is a crucial component of its transportation master plan.
