A REPORT by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has placed Ogun State among Nigeria’s top regions for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), a reflection of its rising economic strength.

Highlighting this achievement, Governor Dapo Abiodun announced that Ogun’s policies have led to economic independence, positioning the state to rely less on federal allocations and more on self-sustained growth.

Speaking at the unveiling of Olumo Courts in Abeokuta, Abiodun emphasized the role of strategic initiatives in transforming Ogun’s economy.

“Ogun State generated more revenue than five states in one zone and six in another in 2023,” he said, attributing this success to efforts that have built a resilient economy capable of withstanding fluctuations in federal support.

Olumo Courts, a luxury smart apartment complex located in Ibara, Abeokuta, stands as a testament to the state’s commitment to urban renewal and development.

Furthermore, the project, championed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, features 36 upscale apartments equipped with amenities like a swimming pool, tennis court, gym, and squash court.

Governor Abiodun explained that the development aligns with the state’s goals of urban transformation and economic diversification, despite facing early criticisms over urban redevelopment initiatives in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Ibara.

Abiodun expressed his appreciation for Obasanjo’s vision, crediting the former president with the inspiration for Olumo Courts and other initiatives aimed at elevating Ogun’s urban infrastructure.

“The success of Olumo Courts confirms we are on the right path with our urban renewal efforts,” he noted, affirming his administration’s resolve to continue transforming urban areas across Ogun State.

The governor detailed how Olumo Courts is more than just a residential project; it represents an opportunity to boost employment, attract diaspora investments, and enhance Abeokuta’s architectural landscape.

He shared that the project’s approval process took 17 months to incorporate essential redesigns, ensuring alignment with Ogun’s urban regeneration blueprint.

In addition to Olumo Courts, Abiodun highlighted his administration’s construction of over 4,000 housing units in the last five years, strengthening the local economy.

These developments stress Ogun’s attractiveness as a destination for business and investment.

Supporting Abiodun’s vision, Prince Rotimi Martins, part of the Olumo Courts development team, described the project as the first smart city estate in Ibara GRA, which symbolizes Ogun’s potential for growth and investment.

Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Alake of Egbaland, also applauded Olumo Courts as an example of how environmental enhancements can drive progress.

Senator Iyabo Obasanjo praised Abeokuta’s potential, noting its geographical advantages and scenic appeal as factors that position it as an ideal city for visitors and investors alike.

The Olumo Courts development and Ogun’s NBS ranking in IGR highlight the state’s steady progress under Governor Abiodun’s leadership, establishing it as a model of sustainable growth and modernization.
