OGUN STATE launched its E-Mobility Programme on Wednesday, introducing e-bikes and tricycles.

This initiative aims to cut transport costs and reduce carbon emissions for a cleaner environment.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the first phase of the project at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta.

He said, “We are committed to reducing the impact of subsidy removal and high diesel costs. These 2,000 e-bikes can travel 75-80 kilometers on a full charge, reducing transport costs by 40%.”

Abiodun highlighted that the state leads in energy transition, being the first to deploy Condensed Natural Gas (CNG) buses last year.

These buses operate on the Ita-Oshin-Adatan and Mowe-Ibafo to Lagos routes, cutting transportation fares significantly.

The governor also revealed plans for a new $40 million Giga Facility at Iperu-Remo, set to assemble electric bikes, tricycles, and cars.

This investment will create over 10,000 direct jobs and 50,000 indirect jobs.

He called on investors to capitalize on Ogun’s business-friendly environment and urged youths to engage constructively with the government.

“Factories are emerging in our state. Please don’t be swayed by politicians who lost elections. We are working to fulfill our promises,” he said.

Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, praised Ogun for leading the E-Mobility initiative.

He encouraged other states to partner with the federal government in adopting CNG and supporting eco-friendly transportation.

NNPCL’s Group Managing Director, Mele Kyari, represented by Executive Vice President Lekan Ogunleye, assured support for the E-Mobility Programme.

He confirmed that NNPCL would provide charging points and swap stations across the state.

Commissioner for Transportation, Olugbenga Dairo, noted that this launch follows the conversion of CNG buses last year.

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, praised the initiative, expressing hope for reduced transport costs and improved living standards.
