RECOGNITION OF philanthropy formed the focus of an event where World Women Organisation (WWO) honoured Olori Janet Afolabi with the International Philanthropy Award (IPA).
The organisation stated that the award came “in recognition of your philanthropy and contributions in innovative food distribution in rural areas and vulnerable communities in Western Nigeria.”
WWO also said the award committee “has unanimously selected you as a recipient of International Philanthropy Award,” and added that the honour “is to celebrate your humanity and spirit of generosity.”
A press release issued also identified Olori Janet Afolabi as a CNN Award-winning Journalist and Queen of Apomu Kingdom.
She was further honoured with the IPA at the inauguration ceremony of the Nigerian Chapter of WWO.
The organisation said she was invited to the event as a Special Guest and award recipient adding that the ceremony served as the setting where the presentation of the award took place.
The ceremony which held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island in Lagos said the gathering brought together distinguished women, leaders, policy makers, entrepreneurs and stakeholders from various sectors to celebrate what the organisation described as the power of unity and collaboration in driving women’s empowerment and economic inclusion.
Also, the WWO described itself as a movement where women speak “to, for and with women,” as it aims to address challenges that hinder progress while empowering women to assume leadership roles in their communities, nations and globally.
Their release added that WWO currently operates in 61 countries with its global headquarters is located in Maryland, United States of America (USA), adding that the award committee made a unanimous decision in her selection.
