THE NIGERIAN National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has dismissed reports of an explosion at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) in Rivers State, asserting that the incident in question was a controlled flare occurrence.

The company assured the public that the situation has been fully contained with no risks posed to staff, surrounding communities, or the environment.

In an official statement issued on 19 March 2025, Olufemi O. Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd, categorically refuted claims of an explosion at the facility.

He urged both the media and the public to disregard any misleading reports suggesting otherwise, emphasising that such claims are entirely false.

NNPC Ltd reiterated its commitment to upholding safety and transparency in its operations.

The company further reassured stakeholders that the Port Harcourt refinery remains secure and fully functional.
