CLAIMS CIRCULATING online about a change in the President’s top office have been described as false, with the Presidency stating that no such replacement has taken place and urging the public to ignore the reports.
The Presidency, in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President, (Information and Strategy) on December 25, 2025, said its attention had been drawn to what it described as a viral falsehood spreading on social media suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had replaced his Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, with his Principal Private Secretary, Hakeem Muri Okunola.
The claim, it said, was entirely untrue.
“There is absolutely no truth to this story,” the statement said, advising Nigerians to disregard the claim in its entirety.
Also, the Presidency made clear that there had been no change in the leadership or structure of the offices mentioned in the reports.
It stated that the Chief of Staff remains in his position and continues to carry out his duties as before. It also stated that the Principal Private Secretary likewise remains in his role.
In rejecting the viral report, the statement said explicitly that Hakeem Muri Okunola has not replaced Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff adding that such claim suggesting otherwise did not reflect the reality within government.
Furthermore, the statement characterise the report as a deliberate fabrication describing it as the work of mischievous purveyors of fake news whose sole aim was to create disharmony within the government.
By addressing the issue directly via the release, the Presidency said it sought to put an end to speculation generated by the circulating posts stressing that the narrative being shared online had no basis in fact and should not be treated as credible.
