PRESIDENTIAL APPROVAL has been granted by President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School (NLS) to take effect on January 10, 2026, for a four year term.
Dr Odusote, aged 57, is currently the deputy DG and Head of the NLS Lagos Campus, who, with this appointment, will become the first woman to lead the institution since it was established in 1962.
She will succeed the current DG, Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose tenure expires on January 9, 2026, after eight years of service.
The appointment was announced by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, in a statement issued on January 6, 2026.
Dr Odusote obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU).
She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988 and also holds a Master of Laws degree from the same university, where she specialised in company and commercial law.
She later earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Law from the University of Surrey in the United Kingdom (UK). Her research interests include Public Law and the administration of justice.
Dr Odusote also joined the NLS in 2001 as a lecturer.
Since her appointment, she has served in several capacities within the institution which include head of the academic department, director of academics and head of campus.
During her career at the NLS, she also served as a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University in the UK for a short period.
The statement noted that Dr Odusote has published extensively in reputable local and international law journals and has also presented papers at numerous legal education conferences.
In addition to her academic work, she has served on committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
As DG, Dr Odusote will be responsible for the overall academic leadership of the NLS as her duties will also cover administrative management and strategic direction across all campuses of the institution.
She will serve as the primary liaison between the NLS and key legal bodies including the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the NBA.
