TOUCHING DOWN in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Sunday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prepared to participate in the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, opening on Monday.
The President’s aircraft landed at the Presidential Wing of Zayed International Airport at 11:30pm local time, a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, said on January 11, 2026.
Sheikh Shakhboot Nahyan Al Nahyan, United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and the UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, received the President. Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, and members of the Nigerian diplomatic mission in Abu Dhabi were also present, the release added.
Additional ministers welcomed the President at his hotel, including Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Planning; Dr Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment; and Ambassador Muhammed Muhammed, Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.
President Tinubu arrived from Europe, where he spent part of his end-of-year break meeting with Rwandan President Paul Kagame and French President Emmanuel Macron, the statement said.
The 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week will focus on the theme “The Nexus of Next, All Systems Go.”
It would bring together world leaders, policymakers, investors, and experts to advance dialogue and action on sustainable development, climate action, energy transition, and inclusive economic growth.
Onanuga noted that the visit is intended to strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and the UAE and position Nigeria as a contributor to global discussions on sustainable development, the release noted.
