SOME LAGOSIANS on Liverpool Bridge in Apapa scrambled to scoop diesel after a tanker carrying the fuel overturned, spilling its contents across the road on Monday.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency (LASTMA) stated via its X handle that traffic was diverted to the other side of the bridge while emergency officials responded.
Operatives from the Lagos State Fire Service (LSFS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), LASTMA, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) were all on site to prevent fire outbreaks, evacuate the truck and maintain traffic flow.
LASTMA also noted that the cause of the incident, including whether brake failure was involved, remains unclear.
Video footage shared by the agency showed residents gathering diesel into jerrycans and buckets.
No fire outbreak was reported, and the road has since been reopened after the diesel was neutralised by the LSFS.
Also, LASTMA added that traffic is expected to improve while awaiting a tow truck to remove the overturned tanker.
Officials had cordoned off the affected section and implemented a counterflow method, causing slow vehicular movement along the corridor before the reopening.
As at midday, JKNewsMedia.com reports that the situation was brought under normalcy as residents continued to go about their regular businesses peacefully.
