OUTDOOR EXCURSION activities such as school excursions, field trips have been suspended across Oyo State following security concerns.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the directive was contained in a circular issued on Friday 22 May 2026 by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs B.T. Oyinloye, before being circulated to education stakeholders across the state, including chairmen of Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), tutor generals, zonal directors, principals, head teachers and local inspectors of education.
“In view of the recent security concerns, the Ministry is taking steps to safeguard the lives of students and members of staff,” she said.
“All school administrators are hereby directed to suspend all excursions, field trips, sports competitions and related activities until further notice,” she added.
The directive also stated that all earlier approvals for such activities in both public and private schools have been cancelled. “Prior approvals granted by the Ministry are hereby overridden by this directive,” she said.
She stressed that students’ safety remains the government’s highest priority over academic and extracurricular activities. “The safety of our children is non negotiable and takes precedence over all academic and extracurricular activities,” Oyinloye said.
School authorities were instructed to ensure students remain within school premises during official school hours, while administrators were urged to report suspicious activities around schools to security agencies within their jurisdictions.
“This directive takes immediate effect and will be reviewed as soon as the security situation improves,” she added.
The statement also notes that the ministry urged all affected institutions to ensure strict compliance pending further review.
