INTERNATIONAL ARRIVALS to South Africa reached an all-time high of 10.5 million in 2025, with Zimbabwe emerging as a leading source market and surpassing the United Kingdom, Namibia, Germany, China, Japan and Botswana.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that Zimbabwe became a key driver of the record-breaking growth, contributing significantly to the surge in visitor numbers and positioning itself ahead of several established markets.

The rise in arrivals has coincided with increasing demand for luxury travel and high-end tourism experiences in South Africa.

Zimbabwe has played a central role in attracting affluent visitors, contributing to what has been described as unprecedented growth in the sector.

The growth reflects South Africa’s recovery efforts, supported by Zimbabwe’s expanding influence within regional tourism dynamics.

The increase in international arrivals, particularly from Zimbabwe, highlights the growing importance of the Southern African region as a destination for luxury travellers.

South Africa has exceeded pre pandemic figures and moved beyond recovery milestones set in 2024.

JKNewsMedia.com also reports that strong demand from Zimbabwe and other countries has driven what has been described as a rebound in the tourism sector, alongside a shift toward premium experiences including safaris, fine dining and high-end accommodation.

It adds that the expansion has been attributed to the combined efforts of South African Tourism, government and industry stakeholders to revitalise the tourism economy and position the country within the global luxury travel market.

It also says that the tourism sector’s performance in 2025 has broken previous records and reinforced South Africa’s standing as a major global travel destination, with Zimbabwe identified among the principal contributors to the milestone.
