STUDENTS from Saint John Paul II College, Uyo embarked on a farming expedition in support of Nigeria’s “Every Home A Garden Initiative.”

They were led on the outing by the wife of the Senate President, Lady Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, at the instance of the initiative spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to boost food sufficiency in the country.

On Wednesday, while many Nigerians were celebrating the May 1st International Workers’ Day, these students immersed themselves in agricultural practices, specifically focusing on the production of garri from their harvested cassava.

The excursion provided a hands-on experience for the students, many of whom turned out to be first-time farmers.

Under the guidance of Lady Akpabio, they learned the various stages involved in cassava processing, culminating in the production of garri.

She noted that the practical exposure offered valuable lessons to the students, with some acquiring new knowledge and other enhancing their skills in agriculture.

As the excursion concluded, the students proudly held the final product, garri symbolizing the success of their collective endeavours.

The “Every Home A Garden” initiative, part of Oluremi Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative” has been commended for ts efforts in promoting agricultural practices and food sufficiency across the country.
