A FIRE outbreak triggered by a diesel tanker explosion near Alake Sports Complex was swiftly contained on Tuesday, as the Ogun State government moved to reassure participants and residents of their safety amid the ongoing National Sports Festival.
The incident, which occurred close to one of the festival venues in Abeokuta, did not result in casualties or infrastructural damage, according to an official statement released by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade.
Emergency services, led by the state fire department, responded promptly, extinguishing the blaze before it could escalate. Officials stationed at the sports complex were also credited for their vigilance during the emergency response.
Akinmade described the explosion as unfortunate but noted the quick containment efforts averted a potential crisis. He emphasised that the situation was under control and there was no disruption to the festival schedule.
“All athletes and residents can rest assured that there is no cause for alarm. The fire was swiftly extinguished, and all safety protocols have been reinforced,” the statement read.
The National Sports Festival, which spans multiple venues across Ogun State, continues as scheduled with security and emergency preparedness elevated following the incident.
