PREPARATIONS FOR Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary took shape on Friday as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Lagos on a working visit to the former seat of government.
The President’s arrival came after his attendance at the coronation of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to the Presidency, the working visit to Lagos forms part of a series of engagements lined up before the country’s independence commemoration, which the government has already indicated will be observed in a low-key manner this year.
The statement explained that during his stay in Lagos, President Tinubu is scheduled to hold sessions with leading figures in Nigeria’s private sector as well as senior government officials to review national priorities and assess the performance of ongoing reforms.
The Presidency further confirmed that the President will travel to Imo State on Tuesday, 30 September, to inaugurate projects executed under the administration of Governor Hope Uzodimma.
The commissioning is also said to be part of the itinerary drawn up for the President’s engagements in the days leading to the Independence anniversary.
As part of the official Independence activities, President Tinubu will also commission the remodelled National Theatre, which has now been renamed the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts.
The Presidency stated that the upgraded facility will serve as a national hub for cultural expression, creative innovation, and the promotion of Nigeria’s arts and heritage.
The statement clarified that the 65th Independence anniversary would be marked with modest ceremonies in line with the government’s decision to keep celebrations low-key, reflecting the administration’s commitment to prudence and national focus.
