Tinubu Meets Lagos Lawmakers Over Assembly Crisis

AMID THA political unrest that has gripped the Lagos State House of Assembly over the last few weeks, President Bola Tinubu held a crucial meeting with lawmakers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.

The intent was to resolve deepening divisions within the legislature amid ongoing power struggles.

The meeting, which commenced on Wednesday afternoon, comes in the wake of mounting internal discord that has threatened the stability of the state’s legislative arm.

Lagos Lawmakers arrived at the venue in two white buses, while Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, a central figure in the crisis, made a separate entrance approximately 30 minutes later.

January saw a dramatic upheaval in the assembly when 36 legislators moved to impeach Obasa over allegations of abuse of office and financial mismanagement.

However, his reinstatement shortly after—facilitated by the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos—sparked further tensions among the lawmakers.

Mojisola Meranda, who briefly replaced Obasa as speaker for 49 days before stepping down, was among those who attended the high-level discussions at the Presidential Villa.

Also, the presence of key assembly members affirms the gravity of the situation as President Tinubu attempts to broker a truce.

Political insiders indicate that the president’s intervention seeks to mend fractures within the Lagos APC, restoring cohesion within the state legislature.

Reports also note that this latest development follows weeks of speculation over whether the internal wrangling could impact legislative activities and policy direction in Lagos.

Meanwhile, as the closed-door deliberations continue, political observers say they eagerly await the meeting’s pivotal outcome, which is expected to shape the state’s political future.

Almost 40 people flew to see him.
Couldn’t he just fly in and out within few hours to save cost?
