HEADING TO the Republic of Türkiye, Nigeria’s President will depart Abuja on Monday, January 26, for a state visit aimed at strengthening existing cordial relations between both countries.
The visit will also explore further areas of cooperation in security, education, social development, innovation and aviation.
A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on January 25, 2025, notes that the trip follows an official visit to Nigeria by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan from October 19 to 20, 2021.
During the current engagement, both countries will hold strategic political and diplomatic discussions on shared values in finance, communication, trade and investment.
The programme also includes meetings between high-ranking officials of Nigeria and Türkiye, as well as the signing of memoranda of understanding covering scientific research, energy, technical cooperation, media and communications, military cooperation and protocol, among other areas.
A business forum will also be held, bringing together investors from both countries to explore areas of interest during the visit.
Members of the President’s entourage taking part in the bilateral discussions include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN; the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa rtd; and the Chairman of the House Committee on Defence, Hon. Jimi Benson.
Also participating are the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim; the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo; the Minister of Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
President Tinubu is expected to return to the country at the conclusion of the visit.
