MANAGEMENT OF the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has ordered an end to all social activities extending beyond 6.00pm across its campuses.
The directive, contained in a statement signed by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Mr Inya Egwu, followed the incident of 12th September in which a businessman, Chiebonam Nweze, also known as Power-Autos, was stabbed to death.
According to the statement, Nweze had attended a bonfire night organised by the students’ association of the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies when violence broke out.
The university said the event was hijacked by miscreants from a neighbouring community who instigated the attack that led to the fatality.
UNN management stated that, henceforth, all such activities must be restricted to daytime and carried out strictly under the supervision of the University Security Unit.
“Social events of any kind will not be permitted on our campuses beyond 6:00 p.m. henceforth,” the statement read.
The university described the development as regrettable and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security on campus.
It assured the public that all measures necessary would be taken to prevent a recurrence of such incidents and to guarantee a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors.
