UP TO 100MW of unaccounted power losses, estimated at N120 billion in a single year, have triggered a directive for a transparent, science-based investigation into energy theft and meter tampering along the 132kV Ikorodu-Sagamu corridor.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, issued a stern warning against energy theft and meter tampering, directing all stakeholders to work together to trace the source of the losses.

Monitoring data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) showed that up to 100MW of electricity was unaccounted for on the corridor, with the losses costing an estimated N120 billion annually.

Tegbe gave the directive on Friday during a meeting with industrial operators on the corridor, where he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to steady power supply under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

The meeting included NISO’s MD/CEO and Executive Directors, representatives of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, and the managing directors of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric.
