THE WEST African Examinations Council (WAEC) has suspended access to the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results for school candidates following the discovery of technical issues.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, confirmed that the decision followed an internal post-release review which revealed technical bugs in the released results.
The glitch was traced to WAEC’s recent adoption of paper serialisation across key subjects, Mathematics, English Language, Biology, and Economics, as part of anti-malpractice innovations.
“The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) sincerely regrets to inform the general public of technical issues discovered during the internal review of the recently released results of the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2025,” the council stated.

The council explained that paper serialisation, already used by another national examination body, was introduced in line with best assessment practices.
However, unexpected errors emerged in the affected subjects, prompting WAEC to immediately shut down its online result checker portal.
“As a result, access to the WASSCE (SC) 2025 results has been temporarily denied on the result checker portal,” Adesina said, assuring the public of ongoing efforts to resolve the issue with urgency and transparency.
WAEC has apologised to candidates and stakeholders for the inconvenience and urged those who have already viewed their results to recheck after 24 hours.
The council added that the situation is being handled with “diligence and speed” to restore credibility and fairness to the result release process.

The development comes just three days after Amos Josiah Dangut, Head of WAEC Nigeria Office, officially announced the release of the 2025 WASSCE results.
WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to integrity and promised to restore full portal access once all identified glitches have been rectified.
