THE BLOODSHED across Benue State has escalated into a devastating humanitarian crisis causing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to declare: “Enough is enough!”
He decried the relentless bloodshed in the state, accusing the Nigerian government of turning a blind eye to the suffering of its citizens.
In a strongly worded statement, the opposition figure decried the persistent killings, destruction of villages, and the silence of those in power, calling the situation a “devastating crescendo” that can no longer be ignored.
He also criticised the federal and state authorities for offering empty condolences while communities are ravaged and families bury their loved ones under a constant threat of violence.
“How much more must the people of Benue endure before their humanity is acknowledged?” he asked, urging leaders to stop normalising violence and to act with urgency.
Atiku warned that the cries of helpless citizens are not acts of rebellion but pleas for justice and protection.
He described the use of force against defenceless mourners as cruelty and a betrayal of leadership, adding that such actions reflect a deeper collapse in the conscience of governance.
Calling for a complete shift from rhetoric to action, he demanded that security agencies be deployed strategically, and that national and state leaders prioritise human lives over political optics.
“Benue is not alone,” he said, referencing similar unrest across Plateau, Zamfara, and Kaduna.
His statement concluded with a call for citizens to raise their voices and demand accountability.
“History will not be kind to those who chose power over people. The time to act is now.”
