NIGERIA’s HOPES of playing at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup (WAFCON) have ended after the Super Falcons suffered a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the African playoffs.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the loss prompted the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Executive Committee to order the entire technical crew of the nine-time African champions to step down with immediate effect on Monday.
The Falcons were forced into the playoffs after missing out on an automatic World Cup ticket at the WAFCON, where they suffered a historic quarter-final exit.

Nigeria lost 1-0 to Cameroon in the last eight, marking the first time the Falcons had been eliminated at that stage in the history of the competition.
That defeat denied Nigeria a direct route to the World Cup and sent the team into the playoffs, where South Africa ended their qualification hopes with another setback.
The latest disappointment then triggered a major shake-up around a side that has long dominated women’s football on the continent.
And now with the World Cup campaign over, the NFF’s decision brings the technical crew’s tenure to an immediate end and sets the stage for changes around the Super Falcons.
