UNITY, PATRIOTISM, and collaboration form the cornerstone of this year’s Independence Day celebrations as the Federal Government has announced the official theme: “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands-on Deck for a Greater Nation.”
The announcement, contained in a statement issued and signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information and Public Relations, on 24 September 2025, positions the anniversary as a call to action for citizens, civil society, the private sector, and government institutions.
The theme underscores the importance of working collectively to strengthen national unity and advance sustainable peace, prosperity, and progress.
According to the statement, the choice of theme reflects the government’s recognition that since independence on 1 October 1960, Nigeria has overcome significant challenges while recording important achievements across economic and social sectors.
These milestones, it noted, must be consolidated through joint efforts to build a more resilient and inclusive nation.
The message ties directly to the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda, with government programmes expected to align with the theme to reinforce its relevance across national activities.
The Federal Government emphasised that the 65th anniversary provides an opportunity for citizens to reflect on Nigeria’s journey since independence, take stock of the collective achievements, and commit to shared responsibility in charting a stronger path for the future.
“All hands-on deck” was highlighted as the guiding principle for ensuring that the aspirations of unity and development are pursued with renewed vigour.
Activities scheduled to mark the anniversary will begin with a FPrayer on Friday, 26 September, at 1.00pm, followed by an Inter-Denominational Church Service on Sunday, 28 September, at 10.00am.
The commemorations will also feature a World Press Conference on Monday, 29 September, at 10 a.m., where the government is expected to provide further details of the celebrations and reiterate its vision for national progress.
The statement reaffirmed that Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary stands as both a moment of celebration and a reminder of the collective responsibility shared by all sectors of society to contribute to national growth and stability.
FG said the theme is designed to unify stakeholders under a single message that resonates with the aspirations of citizens while setting the tone for future national engagement.
