THE FEDERAL Government has renamed the 750 kilometre Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway after the incumbent President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the decision on Thursday in Abuja while addressing journalists.
The Tinubu-led administration commenced the highway after assuming office in May 2023 stating that the project is estimated to cost N15 trillion upon completion.
The road is one of the President’s legacy projects, with its first section nearing completion.
However, the project has been mired in controversy since work began in March 2024.
Announcing the new name, Umahi said President Tinubu conceived the vision for the highway about 27 years ago while serving as Governor of Lagos State.
“By the power conferred on me as the Honourable Minister of Works, and in consultation with the Permanent Secretary, the Minister of State, the directors, and the entire staff of the Ministry, we have decided to name the entire Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is a dream that Mr President had about 27 years ago,” Umahi said.
