DEMONSTRATING ITS continued commitment to corporate social responsibility with a targeted intervention, Fidelity Bank Plc has extended its support to residents of the Makoko waterfront community in Lagos.
The bank provided boats, educational materials, food items, and essential relief packages to improve the welfare of the community.
The initiative was organised by members of the Achievers Inductees Class of 2025 under the Fidelity Helping Hands Programme (FHHP), the bank’s employee-led corporate social responsibility platform.
The FHHP enables staff members to identify areas of need within their communities, mobilise funds, and receive matching financial support from the bank’s management to implement sustainable development projects.
Divisional Head, Brand and Communications at Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the initiative reflects the bank’s belief in inclusive growth and shared prosperity.
“At Fidelity Bank, we believe that when communities thrive, businesses prosper. Our commitment goes beyond banking, it is about improving lives, supporting education, and creating opportunities for growth.
“This donation reflects our dedication to nurturing the next generation and contributing to a better, more sustainable future,” he stated.
The donation comes as part of Fidelity Bank’s broader social impact strategy, which aims to support under-resourced communities through interventions in education, health, and social welfare.
Speaking, the traditional leader of Makoko, Baale Shemede Emmanuel Ajakaekun, expressed appreciation on behalf of the community.
He lauded the bank’s efforts in reaching one of Lagos’s most underserved communities and urged continued engagement.
“We are grateful that Fidelity Bank came down here to support us. May their work continue to flourish, and may God lift them higher.
We hope they will not forget us but come back again to support our people,” the Baale said.
Also speaking, the Proprietor of Part of Solution Orphanage, Nursery and Primary School, Shemede Taiwo, said the bank’s intervention would significantly improve children’s access to education in Makoko, a floating settlement where transportation is largely dependent on boats.
“Many children here struggle to attend school because boats are expensive to build or hire. Fidelity Bank’s donation will make a huge difference in ensuring our children get to school safely and in ensuring the improved welfare of the residents of this community. We truly appreciate this gesture,” she said.
The bank also says its CSR efforts complement its strategic business goal of promoting financial inclusion and community development through itsHelping Hands Programme.
Each FHHP project is conceived, funded, and implemented by employees who identify specific community needs, while the bank’s management provides matching grants and logistical support to scale impact, the bank stated further as the outreach to Makoko follows a similar CSR intervention at the Old People’s Home in Yaba, Lagos, where the bank donated medical supplies and welfare materials.
