RECORD PRIZE money of $655m was shared among the 48 teams at the FIFA World Cup 2026, with champions Spain earning the highest payout of $50m.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that runner up Argentina earned $33m, while England collected $29m after beating France 6 to 4 in Saturday’s third place match. France received $27m for finishing fourth.

FIFA said the 2026 edition has the largest prize pool in the tournament’s history, with payments ranging from $9m to $50m depending on how far each nation advanced.

England’s victory over France came in the highest scoring third place match in FIFA World Cup history after the 10-goal contest surpassed France’s 6 to 3 win over West Germany in 1958.

The result also marked England’s best FIFA World Cup performance since 1966, while France conceded six goals in a competitive match for the first time in 118 years.

Kylian Mbappe finished as the tournament’s highest scorer with 10 goals and recorded 22 World Cup goals to move to the top of the all time highest scorers chart.

He also ended the tournament with 14 goal involvements.

Jude Bellingham became England’s highest scorer in a single FIFA World Cup tournament.

The tournament’s leading scorers were Mbappe with 10 goals, Lionel Messi with eight, Erling Haaland with seven, Jude Bellingham with seven, Ousmane Dembele with seven and Harry Kane with six.

Only four players have scored 10 or more goals in a single FIFA World Cup tournament.

They are Just Fontaine with 13 goals in 1958, Sandor Kocsis with 11 in 1954, Gerd Muller with 10 in 1970 and Mbappe with 10 in 2026.
