TORRENTIAL RAINS failed to slow momentum on the Bodo-Bonny Road project as Julius Berger Nigeria PLC pushed forward with visible progress across the 35.7km construction corridor.
Workers endured the deluge with unwavering commitment, driving the project closer to completion despite the mounting weather-related hurdles.
Project Manager Tim Nippert, speaking between the Nanabie bridge axis and Bonny Island, acknowledged that persistent downpours had affected certain aspects of the work.

Still, he affirmed the team’s tenacity.
According to him, the site has achieved 80 percent completion, with all bridges substantially finished. Only pavement joints remain outstanding, while binder installation for asphalt surfacing has reached 70 percent.
Nippert noted that extraordinary rainfall levels in July have disrupted base course installation, yet the company remains firm in its delivery timeline.
He highlighted that within Bonny Town, 5.2km of concrete pavement is fully laid, and stone pitching is ongoing.
An additional 5km of approach road is 80 percent complete with binder asphalt, awaiting only the final wearing course and slope protection.

Currently, the road remains restricted from general public access, except for critical cases, and will not be open to traffic until full completion.
This is in line with project safety and quality protocols.
Site Security Coordinator Abraham Ikhenoba said the adverse weather has not weakened the resolve of the workforce.
“Every hand is on deck,” he remarked, pointing to the company’s longstanding resilience on challenging terrains.
The Bodo-Bonny Road was temporarily opened in early June for the diamond jubilee celebration of the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, allowing ceremonial access for guests.
However, effective 15 June 2025, the road was reclosed to facilitate uninterrupted construction.
The closure was confirmed by Amaopusenibo Festus Pepple, Secretary of the King Perekule Palace, who explained it was necessary for Julius Berger to maintain progress and meet delivery deadlines.
The Bodo-Bonny Road project remains a vital infrastructure development expected to significantly enhance connectivity and logistics between Bodo and Bonny Island upon completion.
