NOVEL ROAD rehabilitation technology drew keen interest as Julius Berger Nigeria (JBN) PLC and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) showcased Cold Recycling Technology at the 33rd Engineering Assembly of the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN), held Tuesday in Abuja.
Engineers and industry leaders gathered to witness the construction giant’s cutting-edge bitumen-stabilised method, BSM, which is driving sustainable infrastructure delivery across Nigeria.
Julius Berger’s Central and North Region Project Coordinator, Engr. Dr Amodu Ismaila, FNSE, FAEng, stated in his presentation that Cold Recycling Technology has proven a game-changer for road construction, particularly on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano expressway.
The approach, he said, reuses existing pavement materials without heat, offering reduced costs, minimal environmental impact, and faster delivery timelines.
“Cold Recycling Technology delivers sustainable value. It’s economical, efficient, and environment-friendly. Our partnership with Ahmadu Bello University exemplifies the fusion of industry and academia for national progress,” Ismaila told participants.
He explained that the method enhances road safety, extends pavement lifespan, and increases traffic capacity—contributions that have earned Julius Berger major engineering awards in recent years.
The company’s exhibition stand at the Assembly became a hub of activity as professionals sought detailed insights into the technology’s application and impact.
Senate Committee on Works Chairman, Senator Barinada Mpigi, represented by Ashley Emenike, commended engineers’ role in Nigeria’s growth.
He affirmed that over 420 federal roads, bridges, and infrastructure projects have been completed or significantly advanced in the past two years. “Engineering remains a cornerstone of national development,” he declared.

The Assembly, themed Advancing Quality Engineering Services and Businesses in Nigeria, drew professionals nationwide to discuss engineering standards, compliance, and national infrastructure planning.
Julius Berger’s team at the event included Managing Director Engr. Dr Peer Lubasch and Executive Project Director Civil, Engr. Benjamin Bott, alongside several senior Nigerian engineers across disciplines.
