VEHICULAR AND boat movement across Lagos State will come to a complete halt from 3.00am to 3.00pm on Saturday 12th July 2025, as security authorities enforce a statewide restriction during the Lagos Local Government Elections.
The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the directive in a public announcement, stressing that the measure applies to all roads and waterways within the state’s jurisdiction.
This full restriction aims to guarantee the integrity of the electoral process, with residents urged to comply strictly with the 12-hour shutdown.
The order covers all forms of transport and explicitly prohibits the use of sirens and covered number plates during the restricted period.
Armed escorts and personnel from non-accredited security agencies are barred from participating in election-related security operations, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
Exemptions have been outlined for emergency medical responders, essential workers, and duly accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), including election observers and media professionals approved by the commission.
All exempted personnel must wear clearly certified LASIEC identification tags throughout the exercise.
Authorities reiterated that no quasi-security or state-owned agency will be permitted to operate within the election perimeter unless expressly authorised.
The Police Command insisted that no group or agency has been assigned any security role except the designated federal security bodies involved in the poll’s supervision.
Security threats remain a key concern, and the Command has issued a stern warning to miscreants, hoodlums, and political thugs to steer clear of polling units, collation centres, and all designated electoral venues. Police say any attempt to disrupt the election will be met with decisive action.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities by contacting the police through the designated emergency lines: 08063299264 or 08065154338.
Law enforcement authorities maintain that public cooperation is critical to ensuring a peaceful, free, and credible local government election across Lagos.
