NIGERIAN WOMEN have been called upon to unite in their quest for a female president.
This call was made by former First Lady of Nigeria, Mrs. Victoria Gowon, emphasizing that such a goal is achievable through mentorship and solidarity.
Her comments came during a significant event where current First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, voiced concerns about the risk of Nigerian children losing their cultural identity if proactive steps are not taken.
During the gathering, held to commemorate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s first year in office, Senator Tinubu stressed the crucial role of women as the bedrock of families and society. Organized by Busola Kukoyi, Senior Assistant on Media to Senator Tinubu, the event honored women who have made impactful contributions to various sectors and communities across Nigeria.
Senator Tinubu highlighted the importance of nurturing children with strong moral values while preserving cultural traditions. “Women are the foundation upon which our families, communities, and institutions thrive,” she remarked.
She expressed worry that societal neglect could erode children’s sense of identity and called on women to be unifying forces in their homes and communities to foster national prosperity.
Drawing inspiration from pioneering women, she urged, “When mothers stand with you, the house is in order. We must strive to be the unifying force that brings greater prosperity to our nation.”
The First Lady also called on the nation to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and pray for Nigeria’s progress and expressing heartfelt gratitude to all mothers and supportive women, acknowledging their love, strength, and sacrifices.
Vice President Hajia Nana Shettima praised Senator Tinubu’s extensive experience, having served as First Lady of Lagos State, a Senator, and now the First Lady of Nigeria, lauding her as a paragon of humility, passion, and commitment, encouraging state First Ladies to learn from her exemplary leadership.
Mrs. Victoria Gowon echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for unity among Nigerian women regardless of their backgrounds.
She advocated for supporting Senator Tinubu’s initiatives, highlighting that women’s collective strength could pave the way for a female leader in the country. “We have to unite. It doesn’t matter where you come from or who you love, you are a woman, you are a mother,” she declared.
Former First Lady Patience Jonathan also commended Senator Tinubu for recognizing the contributions of previous first ladies. She underscored the importance of unity and support among Nigerian women for the nation’s advancement. “Nigerian women, we have a mother who loves and cares for her children and stands by her side,” she stated.
Chief Mrs. Nike Akande, in her remarks, applauded the event as a commendable initiative that celebrates the nation’s mothers. She noted that development requires time and collective effort, urging for continued support and understanding of President Tinubu’s administration during challenging times.
The event saw the participation of women from various sectors and levels of society, underscoring the significant role of women in Nigeria’s progress and unity.
