THE NIGERIAN Meteorological (NiMeT) Agency has predicted dust haze across the country from Wednesday to Friday, the agency said in a release on Tuesday in Abuja.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that NiMet forecast moderate dust haze with horizontal visibility between 2 and 5 kilometres over the northern region on Wednesday.

It also anticipated localised visibility of 1,000 metres or less over parts of Katsina, Kano and Jigawa states throughout the forecast period.

The agency also predicted moderate dust haze over the North-Central region during the period.

In the southern region, NiMet forecast sunny skies with a few patches of cloud, and slim chances of afternoon or evening thunderstorms with light rainfall over Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.

For Thursday, NiMet said moderate dust haze would persist over the northern and North-Central regions.

It forecast sunny skies with a few patches of cloud over the southern region, with slim chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over Ondo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Delta and Edo states.

On Friday, the agency predicted slight dust haze over the northern region and moderate dust haze over the North-Central region. The southern region was expected to see sunny skies with few patches of cloud and slim chances of isolated thunderstorms and light rainfall over Lagos, Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states.

NiMet further warned that dust particles would remain in suspension and advised people with asthma and other respiratory conditions to take precautions.

Therefore, it urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for operational planning just as the agency encouraged residents to stay informed through regular updates on its website at www.nimet.gov.ng
