APPROVAL FOR a significant policy shift in the career progression of public primary school teachers has been granted by the Ogun State Government, clearing the way for Graduate Primary School Teachers (GPST) on the Tutor Cadre to move from Grade Level 16 to Grade Level 17.

The decision was announced in a statement signed by the Ogun State Head of Service (HoS), Mr Kehinde Onasanya, who confirmed that the approval was given by the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

The statement outlined the scope of the policy decision and its application to graduate teachers within the state’s primary education system.

Mr. Onasanya explained that the approval was aimed at addressing stagnation at the peak of the Tutor Cadre.

He stated that the advancement was intended to enhance motivation among GPST, with the expectation that improved morale would contribute to better service delivery across public primary schools in the state.

The HoS further disclosed that the governor approved a consolidated salary structure for Head Teacher General.

He said this approval effectively upgraded the status of Head Teacher General within the education workforce, as part of the broader measures outlined in the policy decision.

According to Mr Onasanya, the policy move reflected the administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector while supporting its workforce. He stated that the approval demonstrated the state government’s resolve to implement decisions designed to improve conditions for education professionals within the public service.

He also explained that the policy decision on the elongation of the Tutor Cadre followed a review of existing career progression frameworks.

According to him, the review informed the approval process and shaped the decision to allow advancement beyond the previously existing ceiling within the cadre.

Mr. Onasanya stated that the policy was designed to improve learning outcomes within the primary education system.

He explained that the measures approved by the governor were linked to broader objectives aimed at enhancing the quality of education delivery at the foundational level.

The HoS disclosed that the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board had been directed to implement the policy immediately.

He stated that the directive was issued to ensure prompt execution of the approved advancement and the consolidated salary structure.

According to him, the development aligned with the ISEYA pillar of the Prince Dapo Abiodun administration.

He explained that the approval reaffirmed Ogun State’s position as the education hub of the country, as outlined under the administration’s development framework.

Mr Onasanya stated that the administration led by Prince Dapo Abiodun remained focused on implementing progressive policies aimed at enhancing educational development across the state.

He urged members of the teaching workforce to remain committed to efficient service delivery within the public primary school system.

He reiterated that the approvals formed part of ongoing efforts by the state government to support education professionals and strengthen institutional frameworks within the sector.

The statement concluded with an emphasis on sustained commitment to policies intended to improve education outcomes and workforce motivation.
