A NEW digital innovation space has opened in Abeokuta as Ogun State Government, in collaboration with GFA Technologies and the American Consulate, unveiled the ‘Window on America’ project to equip Nigerian youths with critical skills in Information and Communication Technology.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, speaking at the launch held at the Ogun State Tech Hub along Kobape Road, urged young Nigerians to embrace the vast opportunities offered through ICT for self-reliance and future relevance.
He described the new hub as a testament to what public-private partnerships can achieve when driven by a shared commitment to youth empowerment.
The initiative, according to the governor, stems from a deliberate policy to make digital infrastructure accessible across the state, including investments in fibre optic connectivity, digital literacy, and innovation clusters.
He emphasised that the American Window serves not just as a facility but as a global bridge linking local talents with international networks and opportunities.
“This is where global ideas and ideals converge with local ambitions,” Abiodun stated, affirming that the hub will play a critical role in enhancing economic growth, creating jobs, and improving living standards through digital innovation.
He added that the facility would offer more than just digital access.
With a range of free programmes, including English conversation clubs, workshops on global affairs, and access to American literature and resources, the hub aims to develop essential skills for a future-ready workforce.
Acting Consular General of the United States, JoEllen Gorg, described the hub as part of a growing network of 29 American spaces across Nigeria and the second to be launched in Ogun.
She highlighted its role in advancing entrepreneurship, leadership development, English language acquisition, and cultural engagement.
Equipped with modern computers, high-speed internet, and extensive academic and digital resources, the facility is expected to benefit students, entrepreneurs, educators, and creatives alike.
Gorg reaffirmed America’s support for Nigerian youth, encouraging them to take full advantage of the opportunities on offer.
Debo Omololu, representing GFA Technologies, disclosed that the company has invested ₦400 million into its operations in Ogun State and has created over 1,000 jobs in software engineering.
He called on young people to engage with the new platform to secure their future relevance in a fast-changing digital world.
Before the unveiling, the American envoy paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abiodun at his office in Oke-Mosan, further reinforcing the collaboration between Ogun State and the United States in advancing youth development through technology.
