ALLEGATIONS OF misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, have been dismissed by the Rivers State Government.
Commissioner for Information Joe Johnson clarified that while the Assembly had publicly announced its claims, the executive arm remained uninformed through any formal channels.
He reiterated the governor’s dedication to upholding the law, citing Fubara’s compliance with a Supreme Court directive transferring authority from local government chairmen to appointed administrators.
Johnson also affirmed that the governor would address any additional legal directives once official documentation was received.
However, he criticised the Assembly’s ultimatum to the governor and the state electoral commission, describing these moves as deliberate attempts to destabilise the state.
Legal experts, he noted, had raised concerns about the legitimacy of the Assembly’s proceedings, further questioning its authority in the matter.
The commissioner also condemned the lawmakers’ push for an investigation into the Chief Judge, alleging that their actions prioritised personal interests over the welfare of Rivers State residents.
He highlighted multiple attempts by the government to communicate with the Assembly, all of which were ignored. Johnson cited video evidence of official documents being delivered to lawmakers without acknowledgment and noted that some of these records had been made public via national newspapers.
He argued that the Assembly’s refusal to accept these documents reflected a calculated effort to undermine the governor’s administration and create political unrest within the state.
