THE APPOINTMENT of Professor Segun Aina as Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has been announced by President Bola Tinubu. He will succeed Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose two-term tenure is expected to end on 31 July 2026.
JKNewsMedia.com reports that Professor Aina, who turns 40 in July, is an academic and systems expert with experience spanning national examination frameworks, digital infrastructure, and public sector institutional reform.
He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master of Science in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Digital Signal Processing, both from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aina began his professional journey with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he gained early exposure to national admissions processes and data-driven institutional systems.
With over 15 years of post-graduation experience, he has worked at the intersection of technology, policy, and institutional transformation, advising federal and state governments on systems design, digital transition, and operational reform.
At 39, he became one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of Computer Engineering and is now set to become JAMB’s youngest registrar.
He has also served as a consultant to examination bodies including the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state Ministries of Education, focusing on ICT systems, examination integrity, and digital process optimisation.
He is a member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Nigerian Computer Society, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

President Tinubu, in a statement issued on 21 May 2026 by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the appointee is expected to bring his experience, knowledge, and practical insight into the operations of the Board, strengthening its capacity to build on the achievements of his predecessor.
JAMB, in Nigeria, is the body responsible for the conduct of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the entrance examination for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Professor Aina co-founded Fluid Click Solutions Limited in 2010, an IT services and engineering project management firm with interests in EduTech, agriculture, hospitality, capacity building, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
He has also served on the pioneer Governing Council of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, and as Chairman of the Advisory Board of Queensland Academy, Isolo, Lagos.
In his hometown, he serves as National Financial Secretary of the Otan Ayegbaju Progressive Union.
He is the son of Professor Olu Aina, an emeritus professor of Technical and Vocational Education and Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
The senior Aina previously served as pioneer Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the National Business and Technical Examinations (NBTE) Board between 1992 and 2002, and has held several public education roles, including in Osun State.
He is an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OOFR).
