OVER 13,000 terrorists were neutralised within the past year as part of intensified military operations across the country, President Bola Tinubu has said.

JKNewsMedia.com reports that the President disclosed the figure on Friday during his Democracy Day address marking 27 years of uninterrupted civilian rule, where he reviewed ongoing security efforts against insurgency and violent extremism.

Tinubu said the operations had evolved from joint training with international partners, including the United States (US), France and other European countries, to precision targeting of terrorist networks.

He also stated that in Arege, Borno State, troops degraded the command structure of the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), as part of sustained counterterrorism operations in the North-East.

The President further noted that more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents have surrendered since 2023 under Operation Safe Corridor, adding that the government continues to maintain an open window for surrender while warning that it will not remain indefinite.

Tinubu reiterated that bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terror must surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian state, stressing that security operations will continue until threats are eliminated.
